The Team

Executive Chef/Owner Jason Fox of Michelin-starred Commonwealth and Timothy Felkner, Founder of Vigilante Hospitality, are the founding team behind Oro, serving creative, approachable food in San Francisco’s historic Mint Plaza. The new restaurant utilizes our vast local resources to create eclectic California fare with influences from the dreamy Mediterranean. Since opening this September, we’ve been featured in San Francisco Chronicle, Eater National, Tasting Table National, San Francisco Business Times, and included in Thrillist SF’s “Best Bar and Restaurant Openings of Summer.”  The name ‘Oro’ means ‘gold’ and pays homage to the old San Francisco Mint (nicknamed the Granite Lady) built in 1854 to mint coins during the California gold rush.

Oro’s Bar Manager & Resident Cocktail Genius Sean Carrigan designs an ever-evolving cocktail menu comprised of both craft cocktails and twists on spirit forward classics utilizing many ingredients made in-house. It’s well worth a few visits to our marble bar to taste Sean’s creations before they’ve gone the way of summer berries and stone fruit in fall.

Wine Director Kelly Evans, most recently Head Sommelier of Saison, oversees the 100-plus bottle wine list, working closely with Fox to ensure that selections beautifully complement the cuisine and enrich the overall dining experience. The list features a concentration of Old World with many of California’s newest classics, ranging from simple, affordable pleasures to the premium and complex. A wine conversation with Kelly will leave you a bit more knowledgeable about wine, a splendid benefit of your dinner at Oro.

Chef de Cuisine Travis Day (Fatted Calf & Central Kitchen) is heading our charcuterie and butchery program, bringing the wonderful world of whole-pig butchery to your dining experience. Butchery and charcuterie is an art in the hands of a master, and we proudly offer innovative uses of the whole pig (and any other animals we might use).

The rest of our team has come together largely from knowing the founding members, so you’ll find a spirit of purpose and cooperation both heartening and effective. From all of us at Oro, we wish you a warm welcome and look forward to many visits by you and yours at our table.
